How to Join or Start a
Splitter Splat Tribe
Step 1: The Phone Call
Your hows, whys, whats, wheres and whos - all answered on this call with our 2 OG Mom Bosses Angela and Tara. Our model is simple and based on how our ancestors used to care for their 2-5yos but made for these modern times which is inherently takes a bit more planning since we're not all in huts circled around the fire.
You'll hear all about day-to-day and the ins-and-outs of joining an existing or starting a new Splitter Splat Tribe and we'll get to hear your whys and style(s) of Homeschooling so by the end either you'll need to sleep on it (we get it), need time to discuss everything with your spouse or be ready to move to step 2 right away.
Contact us TODAY to get started or keep reading and fill out the Tribe Application at the bottom of this page.
Some of us hopped right on it, some have needed to take some time to really see if it's a fit for their family and some just needed to wait until their child was old enough. Every family is different in making the decision on if/when to move to step 2.
Step 2: The Meet Up
If you're in the greater Austin area: We'll meet up at a local park or you can tag along on one of our Field Trips to get a taste of what we're all about and talk with you about any questions or concerns you might have at this point.
If you're anywhere else: We'll ask if you have another family in mind to start a Tribe with or help you find one near you and assist you in setting up a playdate for both/all families to meet.
After the meet up and everyone - spouses and children - has spent some time in person either at a local place or in each others' homes (recommended) and everyone has had a chance to really see if it's a potential fit, you'll be ready to decide: pump the breaks or move to step 3.
SAFETY NOTE: If your joining a Tribe or starting a new Tribe with a family you're just meeting we will ask that you submit a background check or pay $35 for us to run it for you either before step 3 or, if requested, before step 2.
Step 3: The Trial Period
If you're joining a Tribe: You'll be invited to do a series of trial days where you'll go from shadowing a veteran host, to hosting at your home with assist, to flying solo!
If you're starting a new Tribe: Inviting the other family/families to host with one another at each others' homes before deciding to fly solo.
Our goal is to allow everyone to move through this at a pace that works for each of you. We will support you throughout to make sure everyone is comfortable and anyone can pump the breaks at anytime if they are not comfortable. This is the point where you all find out if it's truly a good fit.
Step 4: It's On!
After your Trial Period is over, if you are ready to fly solo hosting play dates and the rest of the Tribe is comfortable moving forward, you'll be ready to join, or start your own, Splitter Splat Tribe!
There is no long-term commitment required at this point - all we ask is that everyone commits to hosting for one 8-week Session at a time.
To kick off the first 8-week Session, we'll invite all parents to do 2 things:
1. Complete an online CPR/First Aid Class (if not already certified). This can also be done as a local class with all the parents if the Tribe all needs it - surprisingly fun and informative to do together!
2. Hop onto a Parent Planning Skype Call with the an OG Mom Boss. We do these 1-hr calls, after the children have gone to bed, prior to each Session to:
This first Skype Meeting will be the longest since we'll be getting everyone acclimated with the Parent Planning Agenda, our Splitter Splat Homeschool Google Docs Folders (resources, theme-based activities, input your emergency info) and Facebook Group setup.
